  • a wholly-owned subsidiary of Central Textiles (Hong Kong) Ltd., is a woven fabric mill, offering a wide range of bottom-weight greige, denim and piece-dyed woven fabrics. In 2008, a sustainable development team was organized to try to achieve a year-on-year improvement on a triple bottom line basis, despite the size of the assignment. The projects are highlighted as below:

Sustainability Report

  • Central Textiles group publishes a yearly sustainability report which complies with the G3 guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) to explain to our stakeholders what Central is doing in the frontline of sustainability and to put in writing Central’s financial, environmental and social performances. We reports on an annual basis to help our management monitor the group’s triple-bottom-line performance in a systematic manner, to analyze our current position, anticipate our goals and set future targets.

Participation of Low Carbon Manufacturing Program (LCMP)

  • be one of the pilot run mills that participates in LCMP audit. We have since been committed to the standard requirements and were awarded a Gold Label from the program, testimony that Central Fabrics has an outstanding greenhouse gas management system. Our factories are achieving some best-practice energy efficiency levels as well as substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Reduction in fuel consumption

  • Boiler
has installed a combustion system to increase efficiency of the boiler by controlling Fuel to Air ratio (Central Fabrics is the only mill located in Hong Kong to received the CP3 funding).

Reduction in electricity consumption

  • Compressed air system enhancement
Electricity is the major power supply in our weaving mill. Most of our weaving machines require compressed air in the weaving process. To optimize energy efficiency, a centralized computer system was adopted to regulate the system pressure within a predefined and narrow pressure band. This system can store and analyze the actual performance of the system to ensure the system accuracy and reliability at all times.
  • Lighting
    • Replace T8 florescent lighting tubes with T5 tubes in factory floors

Reduction in water consumption

  • Water Recycling in finishing line
A water recycling system was installed to recycle the water used for cooling the rubber band in the pre-shrunk process. Fresh water consumption can be reduced by reusing the collected and treated water in rinsing procedure after the desizing process.

Other on going projects:

  • Commencing corporate accounting to determine corporate carbon baseline
  • Researching on the possibility and efficiency to recover heat from the chimney for use in boiling the water
  • Researching on the possibility and efficiency in fuel recovery
  • Undertaking the Environment and Corporate social responsibility audit

Ms Kit Li

  • is a third generation family-run company headquartered in Hong Kong with spinning, weaving and dyeing facilities. Two spinning plants are also situated in Zhanjiang in southern China. In 2008, a sustainable development team was developed to achieve a year-on-year improvement on a triple bottom line basis, no matter how big or small. The projects are highlighted as below:

Sustainability Report

  • Central Textiles group publishes a yearly sustainability report which complies with the G3 guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is to explain to our stakeholders what Central is doing in the frontline of sustainability and to put in writing Central’s financial, environmental and social performances. We report on an annual basis it helps our management monitor the group’s triple-bottom-line performance in a systematic manner, to analyze our current position, anticipate our goals and set future targets.

Continue to investigate viability of using renewable energy on-site

  • Invested in equipments to utilize solar power to heat up water for domestic use in one of our mainland factories.

Air Conditioning System Enhancement

  • Inverter installation
To save energy consumed in the motors in the air washer of the air conditioning systems, inverters and sensors were installed in one of our mainland factories. Through monitoring relative humidity and temperature in the production zone the motor speed can be controlled by the control signals and operated at reduced speeds, thus saving electricity.
  • "Next" Intelligent Controller
The “Next” Intelligent Controller is a system that adjusts the timing of the compressor system to achieve a reduction in energy consumption by controlling capacity to achieve energy conservation; it will record the demand values, power consumption and conservation for future analysis.
  • Fresh air cooling method application
In winter, fresh air will be delivered via fans to serve individual floors to avoid the operation of water chillers. During autumn and spring, when the dew point of outside air is still relatively low, (approx.20 to 23°C), water cooled by the cooling towers is fed directly to air washers and then re-circulated. This method enables us to cool the production area without water chillers up to 170 days annually, a significant increase from the original 120 days and reduce energy consumption.

Better use of solid waste

  • Organic fertilizer made with cotton waste
Since 2010, we started to replace the chemical fertilizer with the natural cottonseed fertilizer made with cotton waste obtained from production line and reduce production of the cotton waste.
  • Lighting
    • Replace T8 florescent lighting tubes with T5 tubes in factory floors
    • Replace the lighting for all the Exit signs in our factories with LED lighting
