Carbon Neutrality Partnership

Carbon Neutrality Partnership

Hong Kong's Climate Action Plan 2050 sets out the Government's vision of "Zero-carbon Emissions • Liveable City • Sustainable Development", and outlines four major decarbonisation strategies and measures, namely net-zero electricity generation, energy saving and green buildings, green transport, and waste reduction, for achieving carbon neutrality before 2050.

Decarbonisation cannot be achieved by the Government alone.  Through the Carbon Neutrality Partnership, the Government encourages Carbon Neutrality partners from public and private sectors to take lead to deepen and accelerate their pace in pursuing low-carbon transformation, so as to set examples for different sectors in society and the public, drive the green economy, create more green employment opportunities and promote climate action.  The Government encourages Carbon Neutrality partners to set their targets and timetables to support decarbonisation in the four aforementioned aspects, and share with the public their measures and outcomes.

In October 2021, the Environment Bureau held the Carbon Neutrality Partnership Launching Ceremony.

Partners from sectors including property development, public utilities, finance and professional bodies attended the ceremony, pledging support for Hong Kong's goal of achieving carbon neutrality before 2050.

The Environment Bureau encourages partners to reduce carbon emissions together by drawing up plans under a "4T" framework, i.e. "Target", "Timeline", "Transparency" and "Together".

The Environment Bureau appointed Hong Kong cycling athlete Ms Sarah Lee Wai-sze as the Carbon Neutrality Ambassador.

The Carbon Neutrality Ambassador, Ms Sarah Lee Wai-sze, supports the Government's efforts in enhancing public understanding of the impacts brought about by climate change, and promoting a green and low-carbon lifestyle.
